It was definitely the kind of event creative individuals would naturally gravitate to. The long queue of guests said it all — each and every one dressed up like they didn’t wanna look like everyone else, but somehow falling in one niche aesthetic or another — from all-black goth to pastel pink cutecore.
I came as myself, with my vague sense of style that hasn’t quite found itself yet. A semi-slave to the whims of Melbourne weather and my own mood.

For all its overpriced items ($5 for a sticker, hello?!), Raven and I had fun stall-hopping and checking out the goods even if it meant squeezing through the crowd and patiently waiting for our turn to get to the front of the tables. Well, it almost took away the fun of it but what the heck, we love stickers and we love everything cute so we had no choice but to put up with it.
I ended up buying travel stickers featuring original printed artworks by this Sydney-based artist, Jessica Ng. As soon as I passed by that particular stall, I knew I had to stop by. Twice. There was something about the characters that drew me in. I loved the originality and uniqueness of the art. While most sellers there were selling stickers that were most likely printed off images from the internet, these ones, I reckon, were one of a kind. So much so that mine and Raven’s Mykis now look so slay! I can’t wait to catch the train just so I could flex my card when I’m tapping it on the reader.

With her self-imposed budget of $50, it was fascinating to listen to her thought process as she debated between getting a cute cat figurine (‘It’s just gonna sit on my desk’) versus a cute bag (‘something I can actually use’). I stayed with her through the entire decision-making session. Even if it meant going back and forth between the two stalls that were on opposite sides of the room and braving the crowded aisles each way. I liked her sense of practicality and was secretly glad she chose the latter.
Meanwhile, my sister who came with us could not stand the cramped space and had decided to head out five minutes after she got in.

It was such beautiful day to be out and about in the city. It was neither too hot nor too cold. One of those perfect days that inspire you to touch grass. Literally. Like, go out and have a picnic. Marvel at Melbourne’s prettiness as she transforms from one season to the next. Sunlight. Fallen leaves. Crisp air.
On this day, I told myself I would go out more. Even if it’s just outside my house. Spread a blanket at the backyard and make the most out of the scenery I am very privileged to have. I am very lucky in that regard. Too bad I don’t do it as often as I should.
And I should.
