How Do Buddhist Monks Do It?

With all my reading about spirituality and stuff,

you’d probably think I’m close to reaching the state of nirvana,

zen as fuck.

Far from it.

Instead I have to fight harder to accept and acknowledge the dark side of me.

To recognize my mortal imperfections

outside of my spiritual perfection.

When you suddenly have the knowledge of your divine spirituality,

the task of respectfully silencing your ego becomes more daunting.

As much as you wanna lash out and berate the ego at the same time,

sometimes you just need

to take deep breaths

and try to offer your negativity to a higher power.

Try, being the operative word.

Sometimes you can’t help but be petty.

Dirty clothes and wet towels scattered on the floor.

Is that really the battle I want to choose?
