Something different today

“Where do you wanna go for breakfast?” Jeff asked after we dropped Raven off at school. He doesn’t start work until 1pm so we were able to sneak in a date.

“I don’t care. Surprise me.” A typical me reply.

We ended up at Lysterfield, past Montague Farm’s apple orchards and taking the third exit at the roundabout to Stella’s Kitchen where we were the only customers around on a drizzly Wednesday morning. The server seated us by the glass window that offered a view of a classic Australian landscape painted in dull greens and browns. Random wallabies made quick appearances nearby before hopping off into the bushes.

I love these moments with him. The conversations that range from whether or not my new red coral blush makes me look like an oompa loompa to betrayals of trust and friendship to how I reckon my Bye Bye Kitty jacket makes me look like a serpent with the hood on instead of a cool goth chick so I just don’t put the hood on but it’s heavy and it drags my shirt down but I gotta leave it on because I’m cold.

The spectrum of our topics is pretty extreme. We go back and forth and continue to do so until our order arrives. That’s how we entertain each other, like every other married couple, I presume.

Today it was mushroom breakfast. For all my insistence on not being hungry, I managed to eat my half of the share and the rest of the apple chutney!

To cap the morning off, we checked out the shop next door and bought a jar of honey from one of Kallista’s local beekeepers. It’s actually very nice. I had some just then because I caught Raven’s bug and now my throat is scratchy as.

Honey’s supposed to help. I reckon it’s doing a fantastic job.
