“Guys, I have to go,” I told my mom and my sister in the middle of our video call. “The lighting is so good right now I need to take a selfie!”
I didn’t wait for my sister’s eyeballs to roll any farther. I quickly left the conversation and did what any sensible person with priorities do when the opportunity for a perfect picture presents itself, dragging my husband and daughter along for the ride.
It’s not only misery that loves company. Madness does, too.

“What a beautiful phenomenon!” I remarked to Jeff, who sat beside me wondering when his obligatory group participation would stop. He wants off the cuckoo train. “I mean, look at all this bokeh effect!”
“It’s a lens flare, not a bokeh!” he corrected, before diving into a quick unsolicited lesson on how lens flares happen when light hits the lens and scatters around the camera.
Okay, boomer.
